Pre-Order a Bartmann for the November Firing,
Shipping Early 2026

Please read carefully through the information below. Over the past three years we have sold dozens of hand-crafted bartmann jugs and mugs, and are happy to serve our community! It is important that we set expectations for your pre-order, and as such the below is something of a Readme/FAQ to ensure you are clear with what you can expect with and for your pre-order of a bartmann from this year’s firing.

We are excited to be making another set of Bartmann jugs and tankards!

This is a community effort with the goal of providing these as affordable ceramics to historical interpreters, living history sites etc. Your pre-order significantly reduces the burden of upfront costs and makes additional comissioned firing more likely in the future. Individually comissioned kiln-fired items tend to start just under $200 and quickly go up from there (we know because we tried- and that’s not even wood-fired!).

These are wood fired replicas of Bartmann jugs that will be made available/shipped after they are fired in November. It will likely take until early 2026 to process and mail them.

They are glazed to match the style of northern European 17th century salt glazed ceremics, and though they are wood-fired, are not salt glazed.

We are accepting pre-orders for this series, allowing customers to choose from each batch on a first come, first serve basis: first orderers of large bartmanns can choose from the finished large series, first orderers from the smalls can choose from the small series etc.

We are making variants (to accommodate sizes) of two faces that were made from molds pull directly from period bartmann jugs (white sculpted images at left). We will have some of two previously used faces as well, which are close copies of original designs.

BEFORE You Pre-Order: What to know

  1. The prices on this page do NOT include $12 shipping within the USA, so expect an additional $12 on top of the prices listed on the form
  2. INTERNATIONAL: $12 will be deducted from any shipping costs, but we expect current international shipping rates to add around $100 or more to the cost and may take over a month with current global shipping/trade conditions.
  3. We have a limited inventory, first come first serve. You MAY order more than one.
  4. We’re not guaranteeing any precise glazes, looks or custom styles. Items will be first come first serve choices by size category. This is largely due to the nature of the process of wood-firing, and reflects the authenticity of each unique bartmann-the piece you order is a unique, hand crafted, wood fired ceramic reproduction and there will never be another just like it.
As such there can be no refunds.
  5.  The pre-order price is significantly discounted off the retail price.
  6. **RE: REFUNDS FOR DAMAGED ITEMS: Record your unboxing in a format that can be shared. We can work with you to recoup an insurance refund in case items are damaged in shipping, but the insurance company requires evidence of damage . Also, we’d love to share your unboxing if you care to send us the video in any case! *Important to note that our potter goes out of his way to make robust pieces that are also well packaged, and we’ve never lost a bartmann to damage in shipping.
  7. We aim to please and hope you love your bartmanns and tankards! We certainly love ours and have worked hard to provide them at a fraction of the price of custom-commissioned ceramics.
  8. Thank YOU for helping make this happen!

Pre-order your bartmann on a first come, first serve basis.
$12 Shipping will be added to the prices listed below.

There is a variance to the size and shape of each jug, the below guide is an estimate based on our past firings.
